Trip: IAD-FRA, FRA-CPH, CPH-ARN, ARN-LHR, LHR-ATH, ATH-ZRH, ZRH-IAD

Aegean Airlines is one of the smaller Star Alliance members, with a fleet of 64 aircraft and 118 destinations in the Eurasian region. While European Star Alliance members are dominated by the Lufthansa Group, Aegean stands alone. Before this recent trip to Europe, I had never flown Aegean, but after flying with them from London to Athens and then Zurich, I have to say I am extremely impressed. Aegean offers bids to upgrade to business class, so I submitted the lowest option available and won bids on this nearly 3-hour flight.

Aegean’s “neo” fleet is fairly new, clean, and comfortable. As with almost, if not all, European airlines, intra-Europe Business Class was in traditional economy seating with the middle seat blocked, technically making this a 2-2 configuration.

The seats were comfortable enough and clean. This was a morning flight, so after settling in, we were offered a pre-departure drink, and menus were handed out for the nearly 3-hour flight.

We chose water to start the morning and looked at what Aegean had to offer for breakfast.

We were given a couple of minutes to order, and later, the flight attendants came by asking for our order. I chose the frittata, which was a great option. There was also a drink and wine menu available.

It was a fairly light load, so boarding and departure were quick. This flight had about 4 or 5 people flying business class altogether.

Before we knew it, we were taking off!

Dining

Once in the sky, service started with a moist towel.

Next, we were offered drinks. I opted for coffee and water.

Next, the meal tray was delivered.

The meal was fantastic. Everything was solid, and I appreciated the quality, freshness, and presentation of everything served. You also have to appreciate having breakfast over the Swiss Alps.

We also got a nice little chocolate, which is common when flying in Europe (so I’ve learned).

However, as with all good things, this experience came to an end.

Aegean Business Class Review Verdict

Service on this flight was superb. From start to finish, the experience was very pleasant and attentive. The flight attendants periodically checked in throughout the flight to ensure we were good on drinks and if we needed anything after the meal service, which isn’t always the case on U.S. airlines. The food was great, and although the seats are just regular economy seats, the service is better than most airlines I’ve flown in Europe. I felt this in economy when I flew from London to Athens with them, where we received a complimentary meal, something that is now missing from Aegean’s competitors.

Aegean has quickly become my favorite intra-Europe business class, and I hope to fly them again soon!
