After a fantastic time in the historic city of Salvador, I was heading off to Sao Paulo on board LATAM Airlines. I had the opportunity to upgrade my seat to Premium Economy for $35 USD, which was a great bargain for the service I received!

LATAM Premium Economy really resembles the European business class products you’ll find on Lufthansa and Air France, down to the service.

Preflight Experience in Salvador
An 8:45 PM departure time is not something I generally enjoy, but when a travel agent is in charge, you really don’t have a lot of say (at least in my case). I didn’t expect to see a lounge at Salvador airport, but was pleasantly surprised to find the Ambaar Lounge, which accepted Priority Pass.

Boarding was straightforward, with Premium Economy boarding in Group 1.
Seat & Cabin on the A321
LATAM’s Premium Economy seats offer a seat pitch of 31 to 34 inches, with a width of 18 inches. European business class on airlines like Lufthansa and British Airways has the middle seat blocked, making it into a 2-2 configuration.

Tonight was a full flight. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap any pictures of my seat, but I did get a picture of the legroom.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of room available. For reference, I am 6’1″, and I felt like there was an abundance of space. Additionally, since the middle seat is blocked, there is storage space underneath the middle seat in front.
Dining & Beverages
Since I was in Premium Economy, a complimentary meal was offered. Although not a premium meal by any means, it was a very filling and edible burger, which was a pleasant surprise.

I had some coffee and water to accompany my burger.

Interestingly, LATAM Airlines does not charge for food onboard in its economy cabin. Although not every flight offers a meal service, those that do are complimentary. You can learn more here.

I also couldn’t believe that a wild TAM Brasil service trolley showed up, I was so happy to see this blast from the past.
In-Flight Entertainment & Connectivity
LATAM has complimentary entertainment that you can watch on your phone or tablet via their LATAM Play platform. In Brazil, all of LATAM’s aircraft are equipped with Wi-Fi, which means you can connect to the internet. LATAM Pass Gold, Gold Plus, Platinum, Black, or Black Signature members have complimentary Wi-Fi access,
Lavatory

The lavatory was clean throughout the flight and was the standard configuration that comes from Airbus. Surprised to see it was in a good state despite its apparent age.
Final Verdict: LATAM Premium Economy Review
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the service on the flight. The crew seemed to be enjoying their jobs and provided excellent service on this flight over to São Paulo. Furthermore, the complimentary meal was a nice touch, and I left with a newfound appreciation for LATAM. This flight was booked for me by a travel agency, but I was able to submit an upgrade bid for $35 USD, which I believe is a very fair price.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10
