After checking out of the Sheraton Maria Isabel and lounge-hopping between the Amex Centurion Lounge and the United Club, I made the trek over to the United gates at Benito Juarez Airport for my departure from Mexico City en route to Washington Dulles Airport.

Preflight Experience in Mexico City
Prior to leaving Mexico City, I had a chance to check out two of the lounges on the international side of Terminal 1, including the Centurion Lounge:

And the United Club:

I entered the Centurion Lounge with my U.S. issued Amex Platinum Card. I accessed the United Club via my United Club Membership from my United Club Visa Card, but also could’ve entered with my Premier 1K status on a eligible international flight or my United Business boarding pass.
Seat & Cabin Comfort on the Boeing 737 MAX 8
Now, when I booked this ticket, I booked it as a one-way economy mileage ticket; however, thanks to my Premier 1K status and United Club credit card, I was eligible for a complimentary upgrade on this route. Today I was flying in seat 4A, the window seat.

United offers Safran premium seats on its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The cabin is laid out in a 2-2 configuration across four rows, for a total of 16 business class seats.

Each seat is about 20.7 inches wide, has a 37-inch seat pitch, and offers about 5 inches of recline. The seat backs feature a 13-inch touchscreen entertainment system as well.

I had plenty of legroom, and for reference, I’m 6’1.

The center console is where you’ll find your tray table, your entertainment center remote, an audio jack, a plug, and space to store smaller items like a water bottle.

Dining & Beverages
I am happy to say that United First and United Business are seeing consistent pre-departure drink service, even if it is between water, sparkling wine, or juice.

Once in the air, service was kicked off with a moist towel.

Next, I got my breakfast tray:

Breakfast consisted of an omelet with grilled ham, potatoes, mixed fruit, a warm croissant, and mango yogurt. Honestly, gotta say that catering out of Mexico City isn’t half bad!
In-Flight Entertainment & Connectivity
United has Wi-Fi onboard. On this occasion, it wasn’t the free Starlink service, so MileagePlus members could purchase at a discounted rate.

However, I always have my favorite option pulled up and ready to go. And this time, I got the pic as we flew next to my home in the RGV.

This airplane is also equipped with the Bluetooth audio function which is really cool.

However, if you don’t want to connect your own device, they’ll come by with complimentary earbuds.
Lavatory

The United Business Class restroom on their Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes is pretty cramped, with little space to move around. Unlike their partners over at Air Canada, United does not offer premium soap.
Final Verdict: Is United Business Class Worth It?
In my opinion, United’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 business class hard product is solid. The seat is wide, comfortable, and spacious enough. The meal service from Mexico City was very solid, which I appreciated. That being said, would these things move me to buy business class outright? Probably not, especially since I got upgraded on a mileage ticket. After all, this flight is shorter than a transcontinental from NYC to California.
Overall Rating: 8.75/10
