Following my flight from Montreal to Mexico City in Air Canada’s business class cabin, I made my way over to my first hotel of the trip, the City Express by Marriott EBC Reforma in Mexico City. This is a hotel that comes from Marriott International’s acquisition of the City Express chain of hotels throughout Latin America, so I was curious to see what experience I’d have at what seemed to be a more budget-oriented spot.

Overview
Built in 1972, this hotel features 48 rooms across 14 floors. Located directly across from the Reforma 222 mall in the Paseo de la Reforma area of Mexico City, it’s in a central part of the city, relatively close to sights like Chapultepec Park, el Zocalo, and neighborhoods like Juarez and Roma Norte. I’d classify this as a budget hotel, which means that I’m comparing this to brands like a Hampton Inn or a Fairfield by Marriott (like the one I stayed at in Bogota).
Arrival & Check-In
The check-in process was a little slow, but straightforward. There was only one person working the front desk, and the person they were attending had a complicated issue.
Once it was my turn, they asked for my ID and credit card and quickly checked me in.
They thanked me for my loyalty as a Titanium Elite and also took the opportunity to inform me of the amenities and services available on the property.
Room & Features
For this stay, I stayed in room 804. The floors are laid out in a small square, with a handful of rooms on each floor.
Room 804 was a queen guest room. My first thought was how basic the setup was. The mattress was on a modular frame that included the backboard and two flanking side tables that had outlets and lamps above. In the corner was a pretty standard chair.
Across from the bed is a desk area to work, with more outlets. Above that is a mounted TV, which was pretty small, in my opinion.
I also received a small snack and a bottle of water, along with a signed note from the general manager thanking me for my loyalty.
As you walk toward the restroom, you’ll run into a modular closet area with hangers and a laundry menu. Additionally, you’ll find a safe here, where you can store valuables.
The restroom was basic as well, with a simple setup.
The hotel offered soap and body lotion.
And in the shower, you’ll find a shampoo bottle, conditioner, and another bar of soap.
Dining
The hotel has an on-site restaurant that offers complimentary breakfast.
I didn’t quite have time to check it out, but it seemed comprehensive and smelled delicious.
The restaurant also had plenty of seating, and looked quite lovely and refreshed. The hotel also offers lunch and dinner here, which I didn’t check out.
The hotel also had room service, available daily from 6AM to 10PM.

Amenities & Facilities
Amenities include a fitness center, laundry service, and room service. Unfortunately, since it was such a quick stay, I didn’t check these out.
Location & Accessibility
The City Express Mexico City EBC Reforma is located on Paseo de la Reforma, one of the city’s most important avenues, near historic sites like the Angel of Independence and Chapultepec Park. This are is also an important economic and political district of Mexico City, within walking distance of financial institutions and government buildings. Furthermore, you are next to a large mall in Reforma 222, and near great neighborhoods like Juarez and Roma Norte.
Final Verdict: City Express Mexico City EBC Reforma Review
My stay here was quick, painless, and basic. I stayed here the first night because of the cost, and it is honestly a solid option for travelers looking for a basic yet acceptable room on a budget. It is in a great location and offers solid essentials.
While I would choose a more premium Bonvoy brand (like the Sheraton or Le Meridien), this City Express offers great value for a budget hotel. At the right price, this hotel is worth a shot.
