After checking out of Le Meridien Mexico City Reforma and taking a quick stop at the VIPort Lounge in the international departures area, I made my way to my flight from Mexico City to McAllen. It had been a long time since McAllen had a direct commercial flight to Mexico, a route last served by Continental Express. Unfortunately, the Trump administration killed this route, but it was still fun to take my first Aeromexico flight to my hometown from the largest city in North America.

The Aeromexico Connect E190 Economy cabin is pretty straight forward, with few frills and comfort.

Preflight Experience at Mexico City Felipe Angeles
After visiting family, I made my way to Mexico City Felipe Angeles airport, the newest (and most controversial) airport in Mexico. I didn’t know what to expect, and was generally excited to see a new airport.
The airport looks new, with plenty of open space and natural sunlight. Mexico City Felipe Angeles airport, also known by its acronym AIFA, was built to relieve traffic at Mexico City Benito Juarez airport, the flagship airport of the nation.
While the government has primarily pushed for the move of cargo airlines to AIFA, they’re also pushing for more commercial services to move services to this airport as well.
As a Vietnam LotusMiles Platinum and SkyTeam Elite Plus, I was able to use the Sky Priority lanes at AIFA, which led to a quick baggage drop.
The airport has no shortage of neat exhibits and installations throughout the terminal, and once I emigrated and moved to the international departures area. While I generally didn’t expect this retrofitted military base to have any lounges, I was pleasantly surprised to find the VIPort Lounge on the international side.
The lounge was just a few steps from my flight, which was great and convenient.
Seat & Cabin Comfort on the Aeromexico Connect E190
Aeromexico Connect offers seats that are fairly similar to what you’ll find on a Delta Connection Embraer flight.
Today I had a window seat, and since this was a very light load, I had the seat next to me as well.
The legroom was barely enough, feeling a little tight. The seats offer approximately 31–32 inches of seat pitch with 18 inches of width and three inches of recline.
The cabin is in a 2-2 configuration, and is otherwise pretty standard and bland.
Dining & Beverages
Once we were up in the air, service began. The flight from Mexico City to McAllen is about 1.5 hours, so it was great to get a little refreshment.
The flight attendants came by with a cart offering a nut and berry mix, which was the food portion of service. The attendants were kind enough.
For refreshments, I opted for still water and coffee. Unfortunately, this was some of the worst coffee I’ve ever had in the air or the ground. Decided against finishing it and just sticking with the water.
In-Flight Entertainment & Connectivity
I do not recall there being WiFi onboard, and if there was WiFi or any entertainment, I didn’t take advantage of it.
Final Verdict: Is Aeromexico Connect Economy Worth It?
Aeromexico Connect was my only direct and cheapest option to getting home from Mexico City. At only 5,500 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points, I found this to be of fantastic value. The experience was pretty run-of-the-mill, if not even slightly uncomfortable given how tight the legroom was. I wouldn’t want to do anything longer than 1.5 hours in these seats.
