Things at São Paulo-Guarulhos have been changing quite a bit in the past year. Lounges have left, new ones have arrived, and one of the recently departed was the American Express Centurion Lounge. In it’s place is the much smaller American Express Lounge, nestled between the Havaianas and Heineken stores on the international side of Terminal 3. This setup is quite interesting, but a growing trend abroad, as it seems some Centurion Lounges are being shuttered with contracted lounges taking their place.

The Amex Lounge São Paulo is technically a lounge, but it doesn’t really impress with its amenities, seating, or offerings.

The American Express Lounge Sao Paulo-Guarulhos is exclusively open to American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders, however it is a small space that can be subject to access constraints. Additionally, you are allowed a maximum of 3 hours stay.
Atmosphere & Seating
Upon arriving, you will be greeted at the check-in desk where you provide your credentials and enter. For any questions regarding Wi-Fi, showers, or other amenities, you can ask the staff at the front desk. There are several seating areas around the lounge, which is itself well-lit and tastefully designed.
The American Express Lounge Sao Paulo-Guarulhos is fairly small though. That means seating can be scarce, which inevitably leads to entry limits during peak hours. There is a dining room area that has a few tables, and there were also some black lounge chairs that I didn’t snap a pic of because they were fully occupied by people sleeping.
There is also a closed off area for Centurion cardholders, which includes table-side service and an a la carte menu.
Food & Beverage
There’s a drink and food station toward the back of the lounge where you can grab some limited hot and cold foods. They had a rudimentary pasta bar, chicken, and salad bar available. Honestly, I’d recommend eating before getting to the airport or exploring options outside the lounge.
There was also a full service bar where you could order drinks, and there were fridges with soda cans and other soft drinks.
Wi-Fi & Connectivity
Complimentary Wi-Fi was available, and worked well.
Cleanliness & Facilities
Despite the crowded lounge, it was cleaned regularly by staff. The only spot that could’ve been cleaned more regularly was the restroom, although to be fair it was in constant use by patrons.
Amenities
A single shower room is available upon request, for a charge. To reserve a spot, you need to go to the front desk and pay them. Once it is your turn, they’ll come find you and escort you to the shower room.
American Express Lounge São Paulo Review Verdict
The American Express Lounge São Paulo Terminal 3 is a serviceable space to relax before a flight, but not a lounge worth arriving early to experience. It is a small space that becomes overcrowded easily, and has below average food offerings. The most premium aspect of the lounge are the furnishings and the bar.
