I have not been compensated in any way (financially or otherwise) to write this GOL Smiles Lounge Rio de Janeiro review. Airport, airline, lounge, hotel, and loyalty program policies may have changed since the time of writing.

After my visit to the Plaza Premium Lounge, I had time to check out the GOL Smiles Lounge at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão airport before my flight to Salvador on LATAM.

The GOL Smiles Lounge is the better lounge option on the domestic side despite being operated by Plaza Premium. Puzzling indeed.

Access Policy

I was afforded access through my Priority Pass Select membership, which I receive as a benefit of my American Express Platinum Card.

Atmosphere & Seating

Upon arriving, you will approach a check-in desk where a lounge agent will verify your eligibility to access the lounge. Afterwards, you’ll see that the lounge is long, with seating all around.

The GOL Smiles Lounge appears to be well-decorated, with wood paneling that gives it a modern and inviting atmosphere. There was plenty of seating, and although it was busy, it did not feel crowded.

Food & Beverage

There’s a food station to the left after entering the lounge area, where you can find a variety of snacks.

The lounge featured both hot and cold food options, but I wasn’t very hungry after my earlier visit to the Plaza Premium Lounge, so I didn’t try much myself.

This food area was the most crowded part of the lounge, with a good chunk of people trying to grab a bite.

There was also a coffee and water station near one of the bars on the far side of the lounge.

Wi-Fi & Connectivity

Complimentary Wi-Fi was available, though I didn’t have time to test the connection quality during my brief visit.

Cleanliness & Facilities

Lounge attendants continued to keep the lounge tidy, picking up used plates and glasses.

Amenities

Shower facilities are available upon request, which is a great perk for a domestic lounge. I didn’t have a chance to try them out, but it’s worth noting for longer layovers or after early morning arrivals.

The GOL Smiles Lounge at RIOgaleão Airport’s Domestic Terminal 2 is a solid choice for domestic travelers. With decent food, comfortable seating, and a clean, modern design, it provides a much more pleasant experience than expected, especially for a Priority Pass-eligible lounge.
