I have not been paid by any entity in any way (financially, benefits) to write this United A319 Economy Plus review. Any airport, airline, lounge, hotel, and loyalty program policies may have changed since then.
Trip: DCA-IAH, IAH-HRL, BRO-IAH, IAH-LAX, Westin LAX, LAX-ORD, ORD-LHR, Sheraton Skyline Heathrow, Moxy Heathrow, LHR-CDG, Courtyard Paris Saint Denis, CDG-FRA, FRA-CPH, Moxy Copenhagen Sydhavnen, CPH-BOS
Kicking off a whirlwind of a trip across the Atlantic, I scored an incredible Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan redemption on American Airlines’ new Flagship Suites Preferred product on board their Boeing 787-9P from Chicago to London, starting in Los Angeles. In order to position myself, I flew United home to Texas, then onward to LAX.

I found this redemption thanks to PointsYeah. I’m not sponsored by them, but I do find them to be a fantastic tool when it comes to searching award flights. I’ll be posting a Travel Tips post on them soon.

Preflight
As usual, I arrived at DCA with just enough time to get through security and run up to the gate. I’ve learned to navigate DCA with such precision that my timing has been spot on so far, if not cutting it extremely close. I boarded with the Premier 1K group during the preboarding process.

Upon boarding, I realized this was one of the recently refurbished A319s, as indicated by the winged shell on the back of the first class seat and mood lighting. Hoping to try this out sooner rather than later!

As we were taxiing out, I caught a good view of the Capitol across the river. Pro tip: if you are departing out of DCA, try to get a window seat on the right side of the plane if you’re trying to get a scenic takeoff!
Seat & Cabin
Today’s seat was 11F, a window seat located on the right side of the plane. These were Economy Plus seats, which I selected at booking as a complimentary perk thanks to my Premier 1K status.

The cabin features a 3-3 layout, with a recline of 3 inches, a seat width of 17.7 inches, and a seat pitch of approximately 35 inches.

The design of the seat helps provide some extra legroom for Economy Plus, as is seen here. For reference, I’m 6’1″, and it was plenty of space!

Power outlets were also available.

Each seat has an entertainment screen, which really adds a premium feel.

The tray tables fold out in halves, giving you space depending on your needs.

Once fully folded out, it’s a decent size.

Unfortunately, the cleaning crew didn’t do too good of a job cleaning the aircraft.

But the cabin looked nice and clean, if not a little sterile. The new overhead bins were nice.
Dining & Beverages
Once in the air, refreshments were passed out. Today I ordered ginger ale and water.

The complimentary snack options on this flight included a chocolate quinoa crisp or a salty mix. I opted for the salty mix.

If you’re looking for a premium food or drink option, United has a Bistro on Board, where you can order hot meals, premium snacks, and alcoholic drinks.
As a Premier 1K, I am entitled to one complimentary food item and one complimentary drink item from the Bistro on Board. Since I had skipped breakfast and lunch, I was feeling extra peckish, and opted to order the Tuscan Caprese Burger.

The burger comes with a set of environmentally friendly cutlery and condiments like ketchup and mustard.

Now I’m not going to say this was a good burger, but it was complimentary thanks to my status. I would think twice (thrice), though, if I had to pay.
In-Flight Entertainment & Connectivity
United offers in-flight WiFi and entertainment onboard. MileagePlus members can purchase WiFi for the fixed rate of $8 USD for the flight. If you have T-Mobile, you may be eligible for a free hour long session or flight session, depending on your plan.

The in-flight entertainment screen is making a comeback on United, and I actually quite like the design and layout of their interface.

They offered a great variety of entertainment, including my current favorite show, Abbott Elementary.

But of course, nothing can ever top the absolute best entertainment you can watch on any trip, the flight map.

There are also USB-A and USB-C outlets to connect and charge your device. These screens are also capable of connecting to your bluetooth headsets.
Final Verdict: United A319 Economy Plus review
On this three-hour flight down to Texas, I took advantage of my Premier 1K status, which offers me great complimentary perks that elevate my experience. From the premium snack to Economy Plus seating, the perks really add up on flights like these. Couple that with the refurbished interior on the A319, and its a great flight experience that I would say begins to rival Delta, which I reviewed on an Austin to Detroit flight. All in all, very happy to have started this journey on United out across the pond.
Overall Rating: 8/10
