Relaxing in Luxury: Lufthansa First Class Terminal

Sleeping rooms, shower suites, a la carte gourmet dining, and private car service to the plane. Sounds like the kind of thing that is reserved for the highest echelons of society. But this 21 year old South Texan managed to get into this exclusive terminal at Frankfurt’s airport for $81 dollars, and so can you (albeit it took a really long time for me to finally get in)!
The Lufthansa First Class Terminal (FCT) in Frankfurt is one of the premier and renowned premium spaces for air passengers in the world. If you are departing out of Frankfurt for the day, you can have your transportation drive you up to the FCT. But if you are connecting in Frankfurt, you’ll have to walk out of Terminal 1 and walk to the FCT, which takes about 5-7 minutes.
Once you arrive at the FCT, depending on how you get in (I got in through the ground level), you either walk up to the front desk or take the elevator to the front desk and a host or hostess will verify whether you are eligible to enter the lounge. Because I flew in Lufthansa’s intercontinental First Class from Hong Kong and connecting onward intra-Europe with Lufthansa, I was granted access. It was either that or my extremely good looks.
Now, if you get rejected from the FCT due to their entry requirements, but are still eligible for First Class Lounge access, you won’t by any means be “roughing it” in the terminal. Lufthansa’s First Class Lounges (FCLs) are also top-notch by providing First Class amenities. After going through security, I was escorted into lounge area and asked if I wanted to take advantage of a shower suite or a hit the hay and take a nap in one of the sleeping rooms. I opted for the shower suite and was promptly shown the large shower suite to freshen up.
After shaving and taking a refreshing shower, I proceeded to take advantage of the sleeping rooms to rest up and relax before taking off again. These rooms are great amenities and are available to all lounge guests!
After getting some shut eye, I got up and explored the lounge. Over by the entrance, there is a printer that I assume could be used to do some on-the-go office work, such as faxing, scanning, printing, etc.
The seating areas all seemed comfy and luxe. I think the color tones really make the place feel sophisticated!
There are also mini-offices that allow you to work in privacy while on the go!
I then headed to the dining area to grab a bite before connecting onward to Hamburg.
I took a look at the a la carte menu that was offered as the attendant poured me a glass of refreshing water. The menu reads as follows:
I opted for the grilled Atlantic salmon. It was a delicious meal that was accompanied by asparagus and cooked potatoes with some sort of tartar cream sauce. Everything was fantastic. Not to mention they were having some sort of asparagus celebration, so that was cool!

As I was getting ready to go downstairs to get my complimentary ride from the FCT to my Hamburg flight, I looked at the departures screen and was stunned to see my flight was CANCELLED.
I asked the (amazing) Lufthansa agents for assistance with this unexpected development. Within a few minutes they came back with the list of options I had to get to Hamburg. Now, there’s several ways of looking at this predicament, and it really depends on your travel schedule. But if I had to choose a place to be after having my flight cancelled, I couldn’t think of a better place than the FCT! I had flexibility in getting to Hamburg, so I told the agents to book me on one of the evening flights, giving me more time to enjoy the amenities.
Alas, finally the time to depart unfortunately arrived, and I got a nice ride straight to my plane in style.
I got some great views of the planes on the ramp during the short ride!
Verdict:
All in all, the FCT is a legendary place to kick back and relax. I find much value in being able to take a nap in a suite with an actual bed after taking a shower, especially after flying 13 hours from Hong Kong. The agents are a great help whenever there’s a bump in the road, and its a nice experience for any traveller. The dining area is great, and the food is delicious. And to top it all off, the drive straight to your connecting flight is the cherry on top! I only hope to one day to return to this lounge – excuse me – TERMINAL again!
So how did I get in? Thanks to a United MileagePlus Award Ticket! It took 110,000 United MileagePlus miles to fly Lufthansa’s First Class, which got me access into the First Class Terminal. The regular price for the experience was more than $7,000! But with my MileagePlus Saver Award, I only ended up paying $81.50 for this once in a lifetime experience!
