After a brief stop at the hospital derailed my travel plans to meet my dad in Atlanta, I booked a room at the Sheraton Houston North hotel near Houston Intercontinental to rest and recharge before heading home. Thankfully nothing serious manifested, but I did enjoy a nice stay at this airport hotel.

Arrival & Check-In

The check-in process at the Sheraton Houston North was straightforward. I made my way to the front desk and provided my ID and credit card for my stay, and as always, asked if a complimentary upgrade was available. I’ve noticed that the usual answer I receive is “yes, we’ve upgraded you to a club room,” which might mean the room is a little nicer, but rarely is there a difference. Parking is complimentary at the hotel, so that was easily squared away, and then I was off to my room.

Room & Features

Sheraton Houston North club king bed

My stay for the night was in room 515, which featured a king bed. Definitely looked very ominous entering with all the lights off.

The room was much larger than I was expecting, featuring a whole loveseat sofa.

There was a desk for working, and next to it was the complimentary coffee station, which featured a mini fridge underneath.

Here you can find your complimentary bottles of water, which can be used for your coffee machine.

The restroom was pretty standard, with a bathtub shower.

In the closet you could find an ironing board, an iron, a luggage rack, and hangars with a laundry order sheet in case you had to send clothes off.

My only complaint about the room is that it feels tired. Although the hotel was updated in 2015, some modernization would be a welcome change to this hotel.

Dining

The Sheraton Houston North features two restaurants, the Drifters Bistro and Drifters Lounge. The Bistro is where the buffet breakfast is served and is open every day for breakfast and lunch from 6:00AM to 2:00PM. The Drifters Lounge is open for lunch and dinner service every day from 2:00PM to 10:00PM.

As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member, I was given the choice of having breakfast at the restaurant buffet or at the Sheraton Club. I decided to try out the buffet one morning.

They had standard breakfast fare, such as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy, and biscuits.

There were also cold cuts, fruits, and breakfast pastries set up.

There was also a pancake and waffle station.

You can ask any of the lovely servers for coffee, water, and juices.

The Sheraton Club is located on the 10th floor of the hotel, and is open 24 hours for light refreshments, such as soft drinks and light snacks.

Breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 6:00AM to 9:00AM, and hors d’oeuvres are served from Sunday to Thursday from 4:30PM to 6:30PM.

Throughout the day, you can find the lounge fairly empty, with chips and snacks available to take.

There were also several Pepsi-branded soft drinks available, and Dr. Pepper, which is a very Texas thing to offer.

Sheraton Houston North Sheraton Club seating

There were several tables available, with comfortable seats.

Near the entrance was the coffee machine, an ice dispenser, and a juice dispenser.

Sheraton Houston North Sheraton Club business area

There was also a business area where lounge attendants or concierges used to sit.

Sheraton Houston North Sheraton Club breakfast

Breakfast service was more limited compared to the breakfast buffet at the restaurant on the ground floor, but it had the same essentials, such as scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage.

Sheraton Houston North Sheraton Club breakfast pastries

There were also pastries, cereals, and fruits.

There were also bagels, breads, and jams. Not featured is the coffee and juice station, which is over by the entrance.

Oatmeal was also offered, along with ketchup and hot sauce. A great breakfast spread for a lounge.

Sheraton Houston North Sheraton Club evening service

For hors d’oeuvres, you could start off with fresh veggies and cheeses.

For warm options, they had chicken quesadillas and meatballs.

While I could endorse the quesadillas, I’m afraid I couldn’t do the same for the meatballs.

On my first night, they had mini corndogs available, which weren’t exactly premium but were free, so to each their own. Not pictured are the alcoholic beverages, such as wine and beer. You could ask an attendant for help with those drinks.

Fitness Center

The hotel also offers a fitness center on the ground floor, offering some weights and cardio machines.

Sheraton Houston North pool

Outdoors, there was also a pool area with beach chairs.

Business Center

A business center offering workstations was available, which was a nice perk.

Other Amenities

Some of the amenities I didn’t manage to snap a pic of included the laundry area for guests and the complimentary airport shuttle.

Location & Accessibility

Located near Houston Intercontinental Airport, the Sheraton Houston North is convenient for travelers with layovers, but not ideal for those seeking to explore Houston. It’ll be at least a 20-minute drive over to the Houston area from the hotel, which can add up if you’re using rideshare apps. If you’re renting a car, this is more manageable, but still not ideal.

Value & Redemption

Since I booked this hotel last-minute due to a medical emergency, I didn’t get the best rate. But at $168 a night with the AAA rate, plus complimentary lounge access thanks to my Titanium status, I found this stay to be of decent value.

Final Verdict: Sheraton Houston North Review

The Sheraton Houston North won’t be breaking any records or jumping to the top of anyone’s hotel rankings; after all, it is a convention hotel. But it is a solid place to stay with friendly staff and decent amenities that make the stay enjoyable. I would like to see the rooms be refreshed with more modern decor, but outside of that, there really isn’t much to complain about. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Overall Rating: 7/10
