The Santamaría VIP lounge at San José Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica is located at gate 5, and serves several different customers, including British Airways, Iberia, etc. This lounge also doubles as an Amex Lounge, with access granted based on the Central American Amex product a cardholder has. If your Amex Platinum or Centurion card was issued in the U.S., then you are granted access via your Priority Pass benefit, which allows guests for no additional fee. Seating
Upon entering, you will see that this is a fairly spacious lounge for the airport, considering that there are only 20 gates at the international terminal. Most of the seating is in the well-lit open space area, which includes typical lounging armchairs, long tables with seats, sofas, etc.

There is also what I perceive to be the quiet area of the lounge, which is dimmer than the rest of the lounge, and even has daybed seats.
Dining
At the end of the lounge, you’ll find the food and drink items. Today, the menu consisted of salads, pork stew, vegetarian tamales, soup, and other assorted snacks and refreshments.
The self-serve drink station included lemon-flavored iced tea, fruit infused water, drip coffee, and both cold and room temperature water.
Priority Pass users are entitled to unlimited beer and wines. To order, simply ask a lounge attendant for your selection, and they’ll bring it over to you. There is also a premium food and drink menu where you can find additional items for a price.
Views of the airport were great, and despite its location at on end of the terminal, the reality is that you’re never a long walk away from either gate 1 or gate 20.
It is not a lounge that I would say you should absolutely make time to visit, but if you find yourself at the airport and have a long wait, then this is probably your best lounge option. I was there at 3:45pm on a Tuesday, and found the lounge deserted. Overall, service was good and it was a relaxing place to wait for my flight with plenty of seating and great views of the tarmac. Definitely a solid lounge option.
