I have not been paid by any entity in any way (financially, benefits) to write this JW Marriott Berlin review. Any airport, airline, lounge, hotel, and/or loyalty program policies may have changed since then.
After having arrived from the U.S. in Lufthansa’s A380 Business Class, we were excited to arrive at the JW Marriott Berlin, and seeing what they had to offer!

Overview
The JW Marriott Berlin is an upscale hotel located in the central district of Tiergarten, near the Kurfürstendamm central business district and Potsdamer Platz. Formerly known as the Hotel Berlin Central District, the JW Marriott brand was adopted in 2023, and is undergoing a rennovation that will modernize many of the rooms.
Arrival & Check-In
Upon entering, you’ll notice a grand lobby foyer, with a traditionally luxe ambiance given the warm lighting and the marble finishes. To the right, you’ll find the check-in area.
At check-in, my Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status was not initially recognized, and I was mislabeled as a Gold elite. This has been a strange issue for me in Europe, where my Bonvoy status shows incorrectly on the hotel’s system.
Thankfully, upon showing my Marriott Bonvoy app to the manager and proof that I was in fact a Platinum, I was provided the option of a welcome gift or points, and notified of the complimentary access to the Executive Lounge. Given the access to the lounge, I selected points as my amenity gift.
I was also provided an upgrade to a rennovated room, which was a nice touch.
Room & Features

The room I received was was a good size, and offered everything I needed to be comfortable during my time in Berlin. The bed was a nice king size bed, which was perfect for slumber after our transatlantic flight.

The desk, though, was quite small, but not an issue since I wasn’t in town for business.

The room also had two oddly placed chairs, which were great for storage. Size, bed comfort, views, layout

The bathroom was also adorned with marble finishings, giving it a traditionally classy yet contemporary look.

There was also a bidet, which is common in Europe. A bathtub instead of a walk-in shower was present, which I suppose is more common in Europe, but is not my preference. The water pressure was good, and the towels were plush enough.

For amenities, there were some set at the sink, featuring lotion, mouthwash, and other amenities in a neat, branded cardboard box.

Dining
The JW Marriott Berlin has a restaurant for their daily breakfast buffet on the 2nd floor and a JW Steakhouse for dinner on the ground floor close to the check-in area.

Additionally, there is a lovely coffee shop attached to the JW.

I must say it has a great roast and serves iced lattes.

Executive Lounge
If you are a Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium, Ambassador, or Cobalt, you’ll have access to the Executive Lounge, which is located inside the breakfast restaurant space.
While I did not patronize the steakhouse, I did make good use of the Executive Lounge, which is open daily for breakfast and hors d’oeuvres.
Access to the Executive Lounge means that the breakfast buffet is complimentary which is shared between paying customers and Executive Lounge customers, and the Executive Lounge space is reserved seating for eligible guests.
The breakfast spread is comprehensive, with a variety of food options available.
There was a fruit salad, and individual fruits.

Breads and spreads, with meats and cheeses.

And a drink station with juices.

Yogurts and cereals.

There was a warm noodle option.

And of course your traditional western breakfast offerings.

There is also a made-to-order bar, where you can order an omelette, fried eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc.
The evening service was more limited, yet had a great spread of warm hors d’oeuvres and cold snacks.
There are also refreshments in the lounge area, such as soda bottles, water, wine, beer, etc. The only real drawback is that these are in a bucket, not in a fridge.

We ended up eating dinner at the lounge during our stay, saving on food expenses in the city.
Facilities
The JW Marriott has most of the facilities you’d expect, however its hard to say they meet the expectations of guests staying at a luxury hotel.
The gym was a modest size, with lackluster equipment on hand.
The hotel has a pool and sauna room, which are co-located on the same floor. In the pool and sauna room, there seem to be hints that a spa may be lurking about, but I didn’t see any conclusive evidence of one existing anymore, or one opening. Additionally, the pool area is fairly small and underwhelming.

Location & Accessibility
The JW Marriott Berlin is an upscale hotel located in the central district of Tiergarten, near the Kurfürstendamm central business district and Potsdamer Platz. It’s in a quiet area, and of course if you’re looking for some greenery and calm scenery, the Tiergarten is close by. But if you’re looking to get on Museum Island, the Berlin Wall, or other common sights, the JW feels slightly removed.
You can catch the S-Bahn and U-Bahn at Potsdamer Platz, which is a 15 minute walk away.
Value
Because the JW Marriott Berlin recently completed its transition into a JW-flagged property, the rates seem to be lower than other Marriott Bonvoy hotels in the city. I ended up booking this room for an average of 134.05 EUR per night.
The value goes further up depending on your status with Marriott Bonvoy. When you consider the perks I received as a Platinum, I got complimentary breakfast for two via the Executive Lounge and an evening hors d’oeuvres service that basically covered dinner each night.
Obviously, this is also based on individual travel habits and what we prioritize most through our trips, and going out to eat dinner in Berlin was not a priority. And for the rate a standard, run-of-the-mill Marriott can go for in the United States, this price was of great value!
Final Verdict
The JW Marriott Berlin is a solid hotel that really provides a great bang for your buck (euro?). While parts of the hotel are still dated and in need of refurbishment, there is no doubt that the overall facilities offer a comfortable stay for a great price.
Furthermore, depending on your Marriott Bonvoy status, your experience can get that much better with complimentary access to the Executive Lounge and breakfast buffets in the morning. But if you don’t have access or want a quick pastry, the coffee shop is also a great and speedy alternative to get some substance while on the go.
I would definitely stay here again, and wouldn’t give it a second thought.
Overall Rating: 8.4/10
