I have not been paid by any entity in any way (financially, benefits) to write the following post.

Whether you’re studying for exams, hanging out with a friend or date, or getting your favorite coffee order while traveling, Starbucks is probably your one-stop-shop fueling your caffeine addiction. Never mind that local coffee shops are usually cheaper and can be (way) better than your financially crippling Starbs addiction, you still choose it because you know it best and they know you.
What’s been bothering me recently, though, is how little people know about one of Starbucks’ most amazing features: free refills.

Now I get it if you’re just entering your coffee addiction phase and you haven’t heard of this. All you need is the Starbucks Mobile App with a registered Starbucks gift card (or just the gift card), and you’re on your way to (nearly) unlimited coffee for those heart-breaking, soul-crushing “cram-a-semester-into-one-night” sessions. Or a nice coffee date!
Per the Starbucks website: “When you use your registered Starbucks Card or Mobile app to purchase a beverage and then present that same Starbucks Card or Mobile app, you can get free refills of brewed coffee (hot, Iced Coffee or Cold Brew), and tea (hot, or iced) during the same store visit regardless of the original beverage at participating Starbucks stores.”
You also cannot leave the store or use this perk at the drive-thru. Once you leave, the perk expires and you have to start over. The coffees eligible for this perk include some of my personal favorites, like the blonde roast, cold brew, and iced coffee. It doesn’t include any espresso-based drinks like a latte or iced mocha. It also doesn’t mention if custom options are included; from my experience, I’ve paid about $0.54 when getting a refill on a Cold Brew with Vanilla Sweet Cream, so YMMV (your mileage may vary).
This perk is also available at the Starbucks in airports, but it only applies to hot and cold coffee and tea (at least that’s what I understood at Houston Intercontinental Terminal B).

Don’t be afraid to go out and ask your baristas what drinks you can get free refills on to see if one of your favorite drinks qualifies! Remember that any additions, like flavor shots and cream are not covered, so your free refill will cost however much those additions cost. Of course, if you really want to save costs, you can always brew your own cup or support a local coffee shop and have your stress-induced breakdown there.
