After taking some time at the Avianca VIP Gold Lounge, I made my way over to the objectively better lounge option I had at El Dorado airport, the American Express Lounge at El Dorado Lounge

Today, I accessed the lounge through my U.S.-issued American Express Platinum Card.
One thing I’d like to point out though is that if you’re looking to access the main El Dorado Lounge, you can enter using Priority Pass, LoungeKey, and some airlines contract this lounge for their premium and elite passengers.
Atmosphere & Seating
Upon entering the lounge area on the departures level, you are directed downstairs to check-in. After presenting my Amex Platinum, I was notified that I could access the American Express section of the lounge.

It is a small carve-out, but has a more premium atmosphere than the rest of the lounge. There were several seating options, including a work area on the side, however seating was not laid out optimally for those traveling alone. I ended up taking the sofa in a corner.

There was plenty of group seating, which was quickly taken up by families flying down to Buenos Aires.
Food & Beverage

The American Express Lounge Bogota has some snack options available to grab. This included empanadas, little tostadas, and a guava and cheese pastry that resembled a tamale.

I do have to admit that these pastries were really good. They also had a selection of desserts and fruits as part of the self-serve food bar.

Additionally there were some filled breads.

Now, if you’re looking for more substantive food, every guest in the American Express Lounge Bogota can order one round of complimentary made-to-order dishes.
I ordered the beef tenderloin with potatoes, which was better than I was expecting, however I’d recommend tempering expectations.

You can order the food via the QR code provided at each table.

Right by the food station was a drink station, where you could get soft drinks from a mini-fridge down below, and coffee from a machine. There was also wine and liquor available.

There were two different wines, and the lounge staff were kind enough to do an impromptu wine tasting for my visit.
Wi-Fi & Connectivity
Complimentary WiFi was available and worked well.
Cleanliness & Facilities
The lounge was overall kept tidy and clean.
Amenities
The American Express Lounge Bogota doesn’t have additional amenities, however you can utilize some of the amenities in the main El Dorado lounge, such as the spa, which comes at an extra cost.

Final Thoughts & Verdict: American Express Lounge Bogota Review
The American Express Lounge Bogota is a lounge in a lounge concept that also represents Amex’s downsizing of lounges. As I saw in São Paulo, there is no longer a large Centurion Lounge, and instead they’ve opened a smaller American Express Lounge. Regardless of size, this lounge is solid and the dedicated staff make it feel like you’re getting personalized service. That being said:
- Is it worth arriving early to visit this lounge? Possibly. If you’re looking to get a complimentary dinner and drink before your flight, this lounge can easily provide it.
- What sets it apart? The dedicated service and a la carte menu really take this a step above the regular El Dorado Lounge and most other lounges at El Dorado airport.
Overall Rating: 8.6/10
