After a quick visit to the oneworld Lounge LAX and the American Express Centurion Lounge LAX, I then went on to visit to the American Airlines Flagship Lounge LAX. This was my second time visiting this exact same lounge, having last visited in 2018. This Flagship Lounge and its Flagship First Dining room opened in 2018 and offers more than 14,500 square feet of space.

The American Flagship Lounge LAX shows why it is a step above the Admirals Club, but still has a way to go before it can be compared to the Polaris Lounge and Delta One Lounge.

I accessed the American Airlines Flagship Lounge LAX with my Flagship Business Class boarding pass from Chicago to London, which provides entry to any Flagship Lounge along the journey. When you arrive, you’ll notice that this location doubles as a Flagship Lounge and an Admirals Club. When you present your boarding pass to the front desk, they’ll provide you with an entry pass to the Flagship Lounge, which is collected.

Atmosphere & Seating
Upon arriving to the lounge level, you can find the Admirals Club on one side.

And the Flagship Lounge on the other.

Upon entering, an agent will collect your entry pass and offer you a glass of champagne.

American has a partnership with Piper-Heidsieck champagne, which wasn’t too bad.

Nothing quite like kicking off your lounge experience like this!

Once you begin to get settled in, you’ll have two main seating areas to choose from. On the right side you’ll find more traditional lounge seating, with comfortable seats, sofas, and a TV.

To the left, you’ll find more comfortable seats

And a daybed-type seating area.

Of course, near the buffet area you can find dining tables.

These areas have a great view of the ramp, which lets in a ton of natural lighting.

Food & Beverage
I managed to arrive at the lounge toward the tail end of breakfast, and the lounge had some premium food options available.

They had sushi available, fruit, and pastries.

They also had sandwiches and cold cuts.

For hot food, they had eggs, potatoes, egg white bites, pancakes, maple-covered bacon, vegetables, and oatmeal.

Shortly after, they began to replace the breakfast items with lunch fare, introducing salads, cold cuts, and other cold appetizers.

They kept the good times rolling with cold soups, vegetable sticks, and other small foods.

For hot lunch options, they rolled out with a cashew tofu, eggplant and noodles.

Cuban pork with black beans.

And creole roasted salmon, pasta cavatappi, and tangier quinoa.

There are two drink station where you can get Coca-Cola soft drinks, coffee, and tea.

Next to one of the soft drink stations is a self-serve liquor station, where you can mix a variety of drinks with the many liquors on offer.

At the far end of the dining area you can find a water station.

And in the center of the dining area you could find a wine and champagne center, where you could pour yourself a glass of your preferred wine.

Wi-Fi & Connectivity
Complimentary wifi was available and was pretty fast.
Cleanliness & Facilities

The lounge overall was kept tidy and clean. The restrooms were also well kept and clean.

What I actually didn’t like were these restroom doors, which looked industrial and reminded me of a walk-in freezer door.

The rest of the restroom was spacious.

Amenities
The American Airlines Flagship Lounge LAX has a few amenities on offer.

One of these included a plain yet intriguing door that was labeled “VIP Room.”

A one-computer business center was available.

And last but not least, showers were available as well. To reserve a shower, you can go to the Flagship Lounge front desk and provide your boarding pass to use one of the shower suites.
Final Thoughts & Verdict: American Flagship Lounge LAX Review
The American Airlines Flagship Lounge LAX is American’s most premium lounge at LAX for its most premium passengers. It is a minimalist lounge that offers everything premium passengers may seek, minus the en vogue dining rooms that are offered at the United Polaris Lounges and the Delta One Lounges. That being said, it is still a decent premium offering that gives premium cabin passengers more comfort, but it doesn’t quite wow me in any particular way. That being said:
- Is it worth arriving early to visit this lounge? Possibly. Don’t rush to get there, but if you have access, it’s a great spot to grab a bite and relax before your flight. If you’re hankering for a complimentary glass of champagne or liquor, this is also a good spot, but nothing here is going to knock your socks off. In fact, I’d venture to say that the Flagship Lounge is more or less on the same level as some of the most premium Delta Sky Clubs.
- What sets it apart? Honestly, nothing. The food is definitely better than you’d expect at any Admirals Club, but it doesn’t come close to beating what you can expect at United or Delta’s premium lounges. The amenities, while good, won’t impress anyone. And the seating is virtually the same thing you’d find at an Admirals Club. But when you consider the fact that a whole ton of people can have access to these lounges at any given time, I can understand why American has decided to underinvest in them.
Overall Rating: 8/10
