The Ibis Botafogo is my third experience staying with an Accor brand hotel. I had the opportunity to stay at a Mercure in Budapest and the Fairmont in Washington, DC. Both stays were good, but I’ve got to say that if the Ibis Botafogo would’ve been my first introduction to Accor, I’d never say with them again.

Arrival & Check-In

The hotel’s first impression was great. The lobby was well-decorated and looked inviting in a fun way, and the front desk was staffed by very friendly staff who checked me in.

I provided all the documentation to the staff, and was quickly checked-in and provided with the hotel information.

Room & Features

My stay for the night was in room 376, which had a double bed.

The room was a good size, but definitely reflected the budget aspect of this hotel. The mattress itself was made of foam or mesh, covered by a fitted sheet and a thin duvet. There was a TV, a small chair, and a mini fridge immediately in view.

Behind the blackout curtains was this view, which wasn’t any good, but was a view nonetheless.

Next to the window was a closet built into the modular furniture, which offered hangers, a safe, extra pillows and bedding, and a laundry service bag with an accompanying price sheet. The TV remote and air conditioning control were also located next to this storage area.

The air conditioning unit was located on top of the restroom door, which presented a problem for me throughout my stay.

The restroom was very basic, offering a walk-in shower, toilet, and bidet. Amenities aren’t exactly abundant at the Ibis Botafogo, with only two bars of soap and an all-in-one shampoo/body wash being provided. No washcloths were offered, only the full-body towels.

Unfortunately, throughout my stay, the air conditioning unit consistently dispensed water into the restroom, causing puddles to form daily. Although maintenance personnel came to check it out, they were unable to resolve the issue. Housekeeping provided extra towels to place on the floor.

Dining

Where the Ibis Rio de Janeiro Botafogo lacks in lodging, it makes up for it very well with the breakfast buffet.

This spread included plenty of carbs in the form of breads, cakes, and pastries.

Some were filled, others weren’t. My favorite here and throughout my trip in Brazil were the cheese breads (pao de queijo).

There were also plenty of cold cuts, vegetables, and cereals.

For warm options, there were eggs, sausage, and boiled plantains.

At the back of the buffet, a coffee station was located, and in the central food area, fresh fruits were available. To the side, there were juices and water.

Amenities & Facilities

There are few to no amenities available at the Ibis Rio de Janeiro Botafogo. On most floors you’ll find an ironing room, where you can iron any clothes as needed.

Location & Accessibility

As previously mentioned, the Ibis Rio de Janeiro Botafogo is conveniently located near the Botafogo subway station and Botafogo Beach. There are also several restaurants and bars that come alive at night in the area, which offers a great opportunity to check out the Rio de Janeiro night scene.

Value & Redemption

Since I did not book this hotel nor spend any money on it, I can’t reasonably speak on its value, but I would consider other hotels in the city if given the choice.

Final Verdict: Ibis Rio de Janeiro Botafogo Review

Staying at the Ibis RJ Botafogo was a mixed experience. While it wasn’t terrible, it certainly wasn’t enjoyable either. Waking up to a puddle of water on the floor each morning was frustrating, and the hotel lacked many basic amenities that would have made the stay more comfortable. Most notably, there was no gym on site. On the bright side, the breakfast was excellent, and the bedding was decent enough for a night’s sleep, though I never truly felt comfortable during my stay. That said, the location was definitely a highlight.

Overall Rating: 6/10
