Getting to the Madrid, Spain from the RGV is currently priced as low as $667, just in time for Christmas! I have provided a sample fare from Google Flights for travel in December. You can see all the options I found here.

• Need Passport?: Yes (US and Mexican Passports enter without visa restrictions)
• Need Visa?: No

The cheapest and most reasonable option is to fly from McAllen to Madrid on American Airlines. The way to get the $667 fare is to buy the ticket through Iberia’s website (iberia.com). Just put the departure airport as McAllen (MFE) and Madrid (MAD), and the dates 12/12 to 12/24. Flying American will get you back to the Valley on the 24th, just in time to spend Christmas with the family.

There is so much to do in Madrid, from the amazing eateries all over the city, to historic landmarks like the Royal Palace, the beautiful cathedral across from the palace, and the Museo Nacional del Prado.
